Places to Pray: Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis (New Cathedral) It is magnificent. In matters of design and elegance, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis holds its own with the great cathedrals of the world. From the street it is massive and medieval. Its interior is dazzling and Byzantine, immersing visitors in centuries of Catholic tradition through art and architecture. By the turn of the 20...

Places to Pray: Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France (Old Cathedral) There are few buildings in St. Louis more beloved than the old stone church that stands on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. It’s survived two centuries of change, including cholera epidemics and a fire in 1849 that destroyed the heart of the city. Parishioners defended it from Nativist mobs before the Civil War and urban de...

Places to Pray: St. Peter Catholic Church After World War II St. Louis Catholics, like everyone else, found themselves in a changed world. Empty pews in the old city churches were signs of an exodus to the suburbs. A breeze was stirring that would in time bring major changes to the Church. After more than a century of building churches that imitated the styles of medieval Europe, a new generati...

Places to Pray: St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church When the parishioners of St. Gabriel decided to build a new church, they created a place of worship unlike any other in the city, a mixture of contemporary and traditional styles capturing a Gothic spirit within a modern design. In 1950, when St. Gabriel was built, art deco had already made way for more minimalist mid-century styles. St....

Places to Pray: St. James the Greater Catholic Church The days of St. Louis’s great Irish churches have passed. St. Patrick’s, St. Lawrence O’Toole, St. Bridget of Erin, and St. Columbkille have all fallen to the wrecking ball, leaving St. James the Greater in the solitary role of the city’s only remaining “Irish” church. The church was named for the apostle who, along with his brother John, we...

Places to Pray: St. Francis Xavier College Church The College Church holds a special place in the hearts of St. Louisans. Located on Grand Boulevard in Midtown between the riverfront and the Central West End, it stands securely in the center of the city’s cultural geography. In Hollywood’s heyday, Grand was the city’s “Great, White Way,” its blocks lined with glittering movie palaces. When mid-...

Places to Pray: St. Ambrose Catholic Church Among St. Louis neighborhoods, none embraces its immigrant traditions more closely than the Hill. The first Italians came to St. Louis in the mid-19th century to work on the railroads and in the nearby quarries. For generations, St. Ambrose Church has been the neighborhood’s cultural connection to Italy and the unifying force that’s carried it through...

Certainly the Saint Fancis Xavier (College) Church is a magnificent gothic edifice. But little is known of the desecration that occurred there around 1990, the scars of which are still quite obvious to those of us who loved that place. The scar is visible when you turn to the back and look up at the wondrous rose window. The magnificent Kilgen pipe organ was unceremoniously ripped out by the Jesuits around that time and the church was left that empty scar in the loft. The tremendous music for which it was known was immediately and (likely) permanently gone. (SLU, Parks, 1973 alumnus)

Very nice vidoe thank you! I lived in Chesterfield, MO for 3 years and there are many great Italian restaurants in that area too! Yogi was a great baseball player and coach. I used to love to listen to Jack Buck and Mike Shannon call the Cards games and Joe Garagiola on NBC for many years. All the best!

What about grams? Let’s say a recipe calls for 50g of fresh yeast. How many grams is that in dry active yeast? Is it the same gram for gram? ***Update: I Googled lol. So, it seems that the conversion is half. For every 1g of fresh yeast, it’s half in dry active yeast. Instant dry yeast is slightly different it’s more like 3g fresh is 1g dry. Then 6g fresh is 2g dry, and so on.

I have about 5-7 different grains that I want to try. Some are in whole form, some ground into more of a flour form, such as flaxseed. All the article say either you need to soak the grain first, others say just in whole form or half crunched form. So, right now I am very confused. As I add grains, I notice that the bread is heavier and doesn't rise as high as pure white or wheat, which is fine. I just want the nutrients. Please help!
